TAS5766MRMTEVM: Pure Path Console 3 Hangs on "Updating Components"

Part Number: TAS5766MRMTEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5766MDCAEVM, TAS5766M

Good day,

I am currently evaluating the TAS5766 using the TAS5766MRMTEVM connected to the PurePath Console Motherboard. Doing the "System Calibration" is entirely successful as can be seen below but when I click on "Tuning and Audio Processing" it runs through a number of things on the bottom left of the screen but after it does "Updating coefficients to device..." it seems to stop doing anything as shown in the second picture. It does not progress from this point even if left for extended periods of time. When I Monitoring the I2C lines between the motherboard and EVM with an oscilloscope I can see all the communication up until it stops where all communication seems to stop as well. I am not sure whether it is waiting for a response from the EVM. I have also noticed the PurePath Console hasn't frozen and I can still click close and it prompts me if I would like to save.

Using "End System Integration" I am able to dump to a header file (I can see I2C data being written and received when I do this).

I have tried the following to no avail:

  • Tried reinstalling PurePath Console 3
  • Tried PurePath Console 3 on two separate laptops (one Windows 10 the other Windows 7)

If anyone has any additional suggestions or fixes I would be very grateful.

  • Hello Gareth! I assume all of your connections are OK? Also, what operating system are you using on your PC?

    thanks, Jeff
  • Hello Jeff,

I believe all the connections are correct. I have the micro-USB connected to the PurePath Console Motherboard, the TAS5766MRMTEVM is plugged into the Motherboard and I have a power supply powering the TAS5766MRMTEVM.

My primary PC is Windows 10 but I have also tried it on a Windows 7 PC and both behave exactly the same.

    Thanks,

    Gareth

  • Hi Gareth,

How did you get the TAS5766MRMTEVM? I would suggest you try to get another TAS5766MRMTEVM or TAS5766MDCAEVM and check again.

    Andy

  • Hi Andy,

I purchased the TAS5766MRMTEVM through the TI store. I will talk to the local (South Africa) TI agent and see if he can assist with another board to try. I am not keen on buying and importing another board if I don't have to, especially when I don't know why there is a problem with this brand new one.

    Thanks
    Gareth
  • Hello Gareth! If you give me your shipping info I can have one shipped to you for free. Thanks, Jeff
  • Hello Jeff,

    That would be great thanks.

Can I private message you the address or should I just post it here?

    Kind Regards
    Gareth
  • I wanted to thank Jeff for sending me another TAS5766M EVM. This new board however behaves in exactly the same way. I have also subsequently received the learning board (which was delayed at customs) and it also does not work on my work windows 10 and 7 PC's.

I then decided to try with an old laptop I have at home which has not been used in about a year and thus Windows is not up to date. On this PC all of the boards work as expected. The problem reared its head again when the laptop updated when I shut it down. Windows applied in excess of 10 updates so I cannot say for certain which one breaks Purepath Consol 3 for me. Rolling back all the updates and the software works as expected.

I believe there is possibly a compatibility issue with Purepath Consol 3 and a fully up to date Windows 7 and Windows 10 install (I am not sure whether it works on Windows 10 at all).
