TAS6424L-Q1: Performance with 8ohms load?

Part Number: TAS6424L-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS6424

Hello,

I'm impressed by the TAS6424 and would like to use it for a new design. Now I am wondering about the performance with an 8ohms load. In the datasheet only 4 and 2 ohms are given. Are any numbers available?

Greetings,

Raphael

  • Raphael,

Since this is an automotive device, the required impedance for testing is 4 ohms or 2 ohms.  Which specifications would you like to see at 8 ohms?

  • Hi Gregg,

I'ld like to know the THD figures or at least at 1 W, 1 kHz and maximum instantaneous output power and maximum continuous output power.
I would like to use the device in a home audio application. The system uses 8ohms speakers. The TAS6424 is attractive because of its TDM interface which removes the need for a CPLD between DSP and amplifier with i2s input only.

  • Raphael,
The power into a 8 ohm load is 50% of 4 ohms power. The THD will be a little less than 4 ohms, but not much. The maximum instantaneous power is not a power amp test, but really a power supply test. This tests how well the power supply holds its voltage.
