TPA6203A1: How to change volume while using TPA6203A1 or TPA6205A1

Part Number: TPA6203A1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6205A1, OPA1664

Hi,

I am planning to use TPA6203A1 or TPA6205A1 which are differential audio amplifier in my design, is it possible to control the volume while using pot (variable resistor). Or is there any method to change the volume.

Regards,

Tapas

  • Hi Tapas,

You could use a pot to control the volume, but the audio quality would get worse to high gain. These devices are designed to get their best performance to low gain.
You can use a pre-amplifier in order to set a volume control to these devices.

  • Hi Jose ,

I am already using OPA1664 as a pre-amplifier and all the four op-amps are used for filtering, and then for the next stage I am using TPA6203A1/ TPA6205A1 for audio amplification, so where in the signal chain volume control should be used.

    Regards,
    Tapas
  • Tapas,

You could add a pot to control the pre-amplifiers amplitude and have a volume control.

  • Hi José,

I will try adding pot to pre-amplifier and let you know about the control & quality of the sound.

  • Hi Tapas,

I haven't heard back from you I'm assuming you were able to resolve your issue. If not, you just post a reply or create a new thread if this thread has locked due to time-out.
