TPA2016D2EVM: Output pop noise using 100Hz sin-wave from signal generator

Hello,

My customer was evaluating TPA2016D2 EVM and found output "pop" noise with a 100Hz sin-wave input.

They tried different 4Ohm speakers and all have this noise. When the input signal's frequency is changed to 600Hz, the noise is gone.

below waveform is measured at TPA2016D2 output. The input is 100Hz sin-wave. Attached one speaker's spec.speaker.pdf

Hi Victor,

This kind of sound happens when the output signal exceeds the limiter level. AGC function is designed to suppress transients high spikes in order to prevent speaker damage, but I think that in your application the output signal is exceeding the limiter level all the time.
You should configure the device in order to avoid that the output signal exceeds the limiter level all the time. You can refer the Automatic Gain Control section of the amplifier's datasheet to find further information.

Thanks, José.

The root cause is input signal amplitude too high and output limit of the AGC.
