TLV320AIC23B: Thump at startup

Part Number: TLV320AIC23B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3104

Hi there,

I am currently working on a project dealing with the TLV320AIC23B. I am using the LOUT pin for outputting signal to an amplifier (also have a high-pass filter in between). Every time I turn on, there's always a thump of approximately 0.2 to 0.3V then logarithmically rises to 1.66V (which is the Vref). We don't this behavior at all since it would make a thump for an audio application.

My question is that is that possible at all to have a smooth offsetting at the line output when turning on.

Best regards,

Dara

  • Dara,

If you are going to an amplifier it might be ideal to keep the amplifier muted during power up.
I'm curious, if you toggle Bit 7 of the power down control register (shutdown) do you hear the pop?

This is also a very old device, I would recommend similar newer devices that have far better performance and lower cost. for example the TLV320AIC3104.

    best regards,

  • I appreciate your response, Mr. Wilson.

I would be great if I had control over amplifier, but I don't. I do not see or hear the pop when powering down.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into it for a future modification/improvement.

    Best regards,

  • hello Dara,

Interesting, so when you power down and then power back up using the power down control register, you do not get the pop?  I wonder if it would be possible to quickly put the device in shutdown as part of the initialization,  then power it up after a short delay?

    Best regards,
