Audio Codec Selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM3168A

I want to select an audio codec to test two or more devices simultaneously. Main requirement is we should be able to play/listen two or more simultaneous mono audio streams for 8kHz and 16kHz sampling rates in TDM mode both as Master and Slave. Can you please suggest any TI codec for this requirement?

  • Hi, Prasad,

Welcome to E2E, Thanks for your interest in our products!.

We have several codecs with TDM compatibility that could be configured as master or slave of the TDM bus, Can you please share more information related to the codec requirements for your system so we can recommend the best solution?. (like number of analog inputs and outputs, desired processing, power requirement, etc.). What kind of device you are planning to test?.

  • Hi Diego,

    Requirement is as follows:-

    1. No on analog inputs/outputs:- two or more

    2. DUT:- Marvell chipsets for automotive application, when configured as both Master and Slave. So, codec also should support TDM Master and Slave mode for both ADC as well as DAC

    3. Sampling rates:- 8kHz and 16kHz

    4. Other requirements are not that critical

    5. Actual test setup:- Marvell device (DUT) capable of TDM will have codec connected through PCM interface. There will be two or more SCO connections (BT links) with other devices from where digital audio will be either transmitted or received. In this case, codec should should be able to play or record mono audio streams in TDM format.

PCM3168A looks to be good option, but it looks like there is limitation in its Master/Slave TDM operation?? Can you please suggest?

    Thanks
