TPA3136D2: Audio volume

Part Number: TPA3136D2

Today the audio demo using the Colibri 3.2 eval board and the TPA3136D2EVM worked

with the single 4 Ohm 3W loudspeaker.

The max analog headphone volume for the SGTL5000 audio codec is 12dB and the

TPA3136D2 has a fixed analog gain of 26dB.

Are there strategies to increase this volume? The existing application has 88dB audio

energy over a distance of 3 feet.

Thanks,

Priya

  • Hi Priya,
As you mentioned above, TPA3136D2 has 26dB fixed gain. So maybe you could enlarge the input amplitude to get a larger output voltage then larger output power. Another way is to use a lower resistance speaker, then the output power is higher with the same output voltage comparing to higher load resistance. Please be noted that the OC THR is around 4.2A for TPA3136D2, make sure the output current is far from the OC THR if using a lower resistance load. Please also make sure the PVCC is high enough to avoid the output clipping. I believe there should be no problem for this application, because the output power is very low, but just in case.
