What IC's are recommended for a 2.1 Amplifier?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3251, PCM3070

Hello,

I'm planning to make a 2.1 DSP Amplifier with the TPA3251.
The Crossover should be made with the miniDSP core of a TI chip, but i couldnt find a Codec with miniDSP which has atleast 3 DAC Output channels (L, R, SUB) and is as easy to use as the PCM3070 for example.

What do you recommend for a 2.1 sound System? I aiming for High audio quality and beeing flexible when it comes to Connecting speakers.

  • Hi Nikos,

Just to clarify the question, are you asking for what Codec we recommend using?

    Thanks,

    Robert
  • Im not directly searching for a Codec, but something that makes it possible to controll 3 miniDSP cores, for 3 Channels.

What codec or what type of circuit i could use the have controll over every of the 3 Channels.

My first idea was to use two codec`s which both get the splitted (and maybe preamplified) Stereo audio signal on their ADC Inputs. Then i would have to program each codec individually.

Im not sure if that would be a good idea, since im pretty new to this topic and im still an electronics Student.

    Thanks,

    Nikos

  • Hi Nikos,

Sorry for the long wait. With the holidays here things have been crazy.

Well it sounds like you have a great basic understanding of the different options you have. There are a ton of different routes to go with how to configure your input configuration before reaching the amplifier so it's hard to be knowledgeable in all of them. That said, it sounds like this would be a good idea based on the information you provided.

    Best Regards,

    Robert
