PCM1795: Actual sample rate

I am about to make a purchase on this board build by PCM1795

Question I have is when it play DSD256 music source on DoP, what actual bitrate will it play since it is limited to 192K at the highest?

  • Hi Yu,

    This is kind of a complicated question, as the PCM1795 will at some point convert the DSD data internally to a format that the advanced segment architecture and utilize.  A sample rate of 192k is the highest input fS, but the device can still oversample above that.  Take a look at table 39 to best calculate the final sample rate with you input DBCK rate.

    Additional question I have: what tools you can recommend for read/write/status registers for TI DACs?

    So the software for the various TI PCM DACs is a bit scattered.

    PCM512X - Purepath studios, and PurePath Console 1.16
    PCM5142 - Purepath studios and PurePath Console 1.16
    PCM5242 - PurePath Console 2

    We current do not have EVMs for the PCM17XX series devices - but I am actively trying to create new ones. Most of those devices have pretty straight forward digital interfaces and register maps - most MCUs and digital IO tools should be able to handle them.

    Meanwhile, have you use BeagleBoard? Had one set of BBG (BeagleBone Green) wiki.seeed.cc/.../
    Believe it use most TI chips and it has 2 PRUs (Programmable Real-time Unit) MCUs built-in running 200MHz, 32-Bit

    My ideal goal will be running Volumio on BBG and be able to control everything with less boards:

    => MCU => DAC
    BBG => USB-transceiver => DAC

    Question is will it work that way?

    Unfortunately I do not have any experience with the BBG or the PRUs - I think you should check out the MCU forums and see if they have any input.
