TLV320DAC3100: Short Circuit Event Detected when connecting the Headphone with Mic

We have used TLV320DAC in our project and we are using the Headphone lines for the audio out for which, we have 3.5mm Audio Jack.

We have the following issue :

When we connect the headset without mic then audio functionality is working fine in stereo mode whereas when we connect the Headset with Mic then there is short circuit event detected and Audio working only in Mono mode.

What is the reason for the short circuit event short circuit event happening and is there any way to work Headset with the MIC in stereo mode?

Hi Nimesh,

How is your jack connected (schematic)? Perhaps the four-connector plug of the headset is somehow causing one of the audio channels to short to GND.
Is my understanding correct that the short circuit event is happening only on one of the headphone channels?

We have used the Audio Jack SJ-3524-SMT-TR in our design. Also, find attached schematic which shows the headset jack connection with Audio DAC.

Please provide your suggestion as soon as possible.

Nimesh,

Perhaps the return path (GND) is not connecting from the headset to the board connector, and the mic is being connected to GND from board connector instead.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Is there any other way (by changing some configurable resisters) to disable the short circuit detection and we can run headphone with mic in stereo mode?

Nimesh,

What value do you have on Page 1 Reg 0x1F Bit 1? With this bit you can set two types of short-circuit protection, disable the output driver or limit the current to the load.

Hello Ivan,

Thanks for your input. We are writing this register (0x1F) to C2. By changing this register (0x1F) to C4 we are able to get headphone working in stereo mode.
