DRV135: Output pins being damaged

Part Number: DRV135
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA134,

I have a customer that uses standard connectors for both TX (DRV135) and RX (INA134) paths in their application.

As a result, it's fairly easy to mistakenly swap connections.

When this connection error happens, the DRV135's outputs are EOS'd.

(1) Is there a way to provide additional protection to the DRV135's output pins to guard against EOS?

(2) What is the max voltage the output pins can tolerate?

  • Hi Gregory,
The output pins should be able to tolerate voltages within the supply range of the DRV135. If it's possible that the output cable is presenting higher voltages than that, the easiest form of protection would likely be a TVS diode from each output to ground. The TVS diode's breakdown voltage should be chosen to be right around the supply voltage of the DRV135.
  • Hi Gregory
We haven't heard back from you so we assume you were able to resolve your issue. If not, just post a reply below or create a new thread if this one has timed-out.

    Thanks
