PCM9211: PCM9211: ADC input to SPDIF output without MCU control

Part Number: PCM9211

Hi guys,

My customer needs a ADC input to SPDIF output convertor.

They don't have MCU to program the device.

I checked the datasheet, looks like the reset settings of PCM9211 is OK to do this:

ADC-->I2S output-->I2S input-->SPDIF output.

But I don't have EVM to verify, could you please help to confirm this application?

Thanks a lot,

Kevin Dang

  • Hi, Kevin,

I think this might be possible by looking at the default routing block diagram of the datasheet, but I have notified my colleague with more experience in this device to comment and confirm if such operation is possible.

  • Hi Kevin,

Glad you are using PCM9211 for your application.

As far as the default routing of the PCM9211 goes, it definitely allows for it to be used (without configuration using MCU) for ADC Analog in -> I2S -> SPDIF output. For this use case, what you will need is to route the I2S lines from MAIN OUTPUT PORT to MPIO_C [AUXIN1] as listed below -

    Pin 20 /SCKO to Pin7/MPIO_CO

    Pin 19/BCK to Pin8/MPIO_C1

    Pin18/LRCK to Pin9/MPIO_C2

    Pin 17/DOUT to Pin10/MPIO_C3

This effectively allows the digital output from ADC which is available at the main output port by default to be routed to AUXIN1 (MPIO_C) which is default input to DIT block. The output of the DIT (S/PDIF output) is available at MPO by default and hence you will achieve the Analog input to S/PDIF output conversion using PCM9211.

    Best regards,
    Ravi
