TAS2557EVM: PPC3 How to adjust equalizer in Audio Processing menu

Part Number: TAS2557EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2557, , PP-SALB2-EVM

Dear Sir,

I would like to demo TAS2557 to my customer. I had the EVM and PPC3 download.

I have problems (in PPC3) when using TAS2557EVM:

1) When I click  Equalizer in Audio processing, error message pops up saying that Speaker SPL data is not present in selected characterization Data.

Unable switch on the SmartEq. (Please refer to attachment)

2) When above error message pops up, the software hang(no response when I click OK) and I need to force closing the software (by task manager). Is this normal?

3) I need to load ROM mode 1/2 in test and measurement, then playback music in media player then only there has sound output from the speaker.

Is this normal procedure?

4) Also, during initializing when click tuning and audio processing, there is error message at the end 'Failed to update process flow'. Is this OK?

Thanks.

  • Hi Wee Keat Chin,

How did you configure the EVM? and What setup are you using?

  • Dear Jose,

I had checked both mono & dual mono mode (Both files that provided by TI).

Steps : Loading PPC3 TAS2557EVM APPS-> Select Mono mode-> Playback music using media player

=> Result: No output. Needs to run either system checks or Test and Measurement (select ROM mode) then only has output.

    1) When I click  Equalizer in Audio processing, error message pops up saying that Speaker SPL data is not present in selected characterization Data.

    Unable switch on the SmartEq.

=> I need to adjust the equalizer function in order to demo to my customer

    Question:

Is it necessary to characterize the speaker unit in order to have the equalizer/smartAmp function by using Smart Amplifier Speaker Characterization Board Evaluation Module (PP-SALB2-EVM )?

    Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Wee Keat

  • Dear Jose,

I re-installed the PPC3 and everything is working fine now.

    I have questions:

    1) If customer wants to characterize their speaker to tune with TAS2557, is it necessary to use the Smart Amplifier Speaker Characterization Board Evaluation Module (PP-SALB2-EVM )?

    2) Is it necessary to measure the speaker SPL by using above EVM for compensation or just the speaker normalization will do?

    Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Wee Keat

  • Hi Wee Keat,

    1) Yes, it is. You need to use the SmartAmp Learning board 2 to characterize the speaker.
    2) The SPL's measurement is part of the speaker characterization performed by the SmartAmp Learning board 2 and Pure Path Console 3 (PPC3) and it is necessary to characterize the speaker correctly.
