PCM2707C: question on I2S sampling rate

Part Number: PCM2707C

Hi,

The datasheet specifies sampling rates of 32, 44.1, and 48 --- what determines the sampling rate?  Can I set the device to work at, say, 48kHz no matter what?

I tried a circuit essentially identical to that in Figure 37 (section 10.2.3) in the datasheet, and I connected the I2S output to a DSP chip (the ADAU1701 evaluation board).

When I connect it to an Ubuntu Linux host, the generated I2S runs at 44.1kHz.  Do I have control over the frequency to select 48kHz operation?

Thanks,
Carlos

  • Hi, Carlos,

The sampling rate of the USB-DAC device is set by the operating system, I am not familiar with Ubuntu, but there should be a way to change the sampling rate to 48KHz. For example, in Windows OS, the sampling rate can be changed on the Playback devices window, after selecting the configuration options for the device, on the advanced tab.

  • Thanks Diego,

My intuition was that it would be an OS setting, but I couldn't find any such settings on the "Sound Properties" dialog on Ubuntu. I'll try again tomorrow (the device is on my desk at the office). I'll also wait a day or two before marking the thread as "Solved", in case someone familiar with Linux knows and posts the answer (it may be adjustable through some configuration file, I suspect).

    Thanks,
    Carlos
