TLV320ADC3101-Q1: I2C rise time and fall time specifications

Hi Team,

I looked in the datasheet, but was not able to find the I2C rise and fall time specifications listed. Would it be possible to obtain the specifications so that I can make sure the I2C master is producing the appropriate timing waveforms?

Hi, Jared,

The ADC3101 is compliant with standard I²C interface timing specs for our audio codecs. The maximum supported rise time is 1000ns for standard I²C mode, while for fast I²C mode, it is 300ns. The maximum fall time for both I²C modes is 300 ns.

HI, Jared,

There is no minimum spec for the standard mode, but for both rise and fall times in fast mode, the minimum time is specified as 20+0.1Cb, being Cb the capacitive load for each bus line (400pF maximum).

Thanks for the confirmation. So if there is a minimum spec of ~20ns, does that mean the rise and fall times must take longer than 20ns? If they are faster than 20ns, what is the consequence?

Hi, Jared,

Yes, the Fast-mode of I²C protocol has more strict timing parameters to allow faster transfer rate. If the timing specs for the fast-mode are not met, it is possible to find unpredictable states on the transfer protocol, which could lead into incorrect data transfer.
