TPA3110D2: Ralation for PLIMIT and virtual rail

Part Number: TPA3110D2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3140D2

TPA3110D2 datasheet P19 is described " This "virtual" rail is 4 times the voltage at the PLIMIT pin".

Please let me know about Virtual rail (PLIMIT ×4) have vary or not.

When PLIMIT input is no variation voltage (2V ±0V), is Vp set just 8V?

I want to know accuracy of virtual rail: "4 times"

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Hi Satoshi-san,
PLIMIT is a very rough protection on the speaker. So it's not accurate 4 times relationship between 'virtual' rail and the voltage on the PLIMIT pin. When the voltage on teh PLIMIT pin is set to 2V, the Vp is limited to around 8V, not accurate 8V. The radical way to protect the speaker is to limit the input signal amplitude. And you could also refer to TPA3140D2, which has AGL internally(12dB dynamic range) to protect the speaker.

    Thank you for reply,

Is Vp accuracy equal to Vo range? (Datasheet Page-7, 6.75V~8.75V)
I think that Vp and Vo accuracy are close relationship.

    Satoshi
  • Hi Satoshi-san,
Sorry for the confusion. The 'Vp' in the above reply should be 'Vo'(the output voltage) - this is a typo. When the voltage on teh PLIMIT pin is set to 2V, the Vo is limited to around 8V, not accurate 8V.
