PCM5242: Does pcm1861 need input driving ?

Part Number: PCM5242
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5102, LM111

hi but i the schematic uploaded...the agnd and dgnd doesn't need to be separated? it seems that it uses a single gnd on analog and digital?

  • Hi Timotei,

Not sure what exactly you are asking here. I would recommend that the AGND and DGND be connected, this can be done at a single point or with a single unified ground plain with the digital and analog domain separated by layout.

    Thanks!

  • hello ! so have a :adc 1861 and a dac pcm5102...

so they are conected to a pic32 microcontroller...

the question is: the microcontroller is separated from da adc and dac, however i have to cross with i2s signals and controll... someone told me that i should be using 2 separate power supplies...

a lm111 we7dt for agnd and avdd and another one for pic32 dvdd and dgnd...should i do that?
how do i connect the analog and digital grounds? and how do i connect avdd and dvdd?
  • Hi Timotei,

If you would like to have two LDOs providing an analog supply and digital supply, just ensure that there is good ground current return path to each respective LDO. I generally recommend a solid GND plane, with digital and analog components only separated geographically. A large, uninterrupted ground plane is best.

    Thanks!
