Need Replacement of an Audio Amplifier IC for Ultrasonic Vortex Flow Meter

Hi,

I'm working on a Vortex Shredder Flow Meter. Earlier (a long time ago) we were using CA3088E, An AM Receiver Subsystem and General Purpose Amplifier Array IC in our electronics.

Now, since this IC is an obsolete product, we need a replacement/alternate option for this IC.

The purpose of this IC was to extract the modulating signal or audio signal generated due to the Karman Vortices from AM signal received by piezo receiver. Signal frequency is ~200kHz.

The alternate option could be of different package/pins or multiple ICs that can serve the purpose.

Hello Harish,
Harris made the CA3088E and it’s an AM radio receiver front end IC (much more than an Amp).
You should check with them on a replacement.

TI could suggest parts for a design but we would need a block diagram, specifications, etc.
To dissect the CA3088A and design something with matched performance would be very difficult.

As Ed has commented I don't think TI has anything that is really suited as a replacement for the CA3088E.

I do see that NTE seems to be selling an IC that is a copy of the CA3088E that might work for you. I'm not sure if they are manufacturing new devices or bought up the remaining stock from Harris.

May I have your opinion on building the circuit as per the CA3088 schematic with general purpose high transition frequency(~100Mhz) transistors.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the research.
As I can see, NTE is charging USD 20 to 25 for single IC & the stock is very less.

I think you are right that NTE is selling the remaining stock from Harris. So, we can not rely on NTE regarding this IC.

I did a little more looking and the best alternative IC I have found from other vendors is this one. I'm not sure that it has enough bandwidth for your need, but it looks relatively general purpose and may work.
