Hello,

I have a doubt regarding the McASP interfacing with this part.

I have a multiple McASP ports supported in my SOC. In this codec i have 4 DIN pins each pin being input to two DACs thus i have eight DACs and eight output channels. Which has to go to eight line out connectors or 3.5mm Jack support. 

Now shall I connect the DOUT pins available in this CODEC to the DIN pin ( here each pin is output of two ADCs internally thus 6 channels available which can be connected to the 3.5mm Jack or the Line in connectors) so that i can use the same McASP port for both operation then simultaneously we can not use the line in or line out. Since the McASP supports both input and out with separate clocks for both (bit clock and frame clock) can it be pulled off? Else can we use TDM on both the pins (DIN1 and DOUT1) separately on the same McASP port?

We are thinking of connecting two different McASP ports to both DIN and DOUT. Which is better and Can we do like that? What might be the dependencies?

    The digital outputs of the PCM3168A in general are connected to the host processor as well as the digital inputs. I assume your plan is to connect the DOUTS (from ADC) to the host DINs and the DOUTs from the host to the DINs of the codec, which is fine. For simultaneous operation of ADC and DAC, there is no issue in making this connection, as long as the clocks are properly supplies to the codec. The bit clock and word clock can be shared between DACs and ADCs.  Can you please provide a block diagram of what you are targeting so we can recommend the best configuration with the PCM3168A?

    The application diagram seems fine, it is no problem to use independent audio serial interfaces for the ADCs and DACs.

  • How many 3.5mm Jacks do I need to use here?

    So 4 Dins going to 8 DACs( Each Din shared by two DACs) will be available as 8 Differential channels at the output. Out of these does two channels will go to single line out connector or separate line out( 3.5mm Jack) connector each? Similair doubt on the line in side as well. How can be two separate analog inputs(Line in)  being connected to two different ADCs give out single DOUT is my another doubt.

    The 3.5mm Jacks are used in general for stereo single-ended outputs. It would depend on the configuration you want for your system to use one jack per each two channels (in Single ended mode) or a single jack for channel, where a differential signal is provided on the tip and ring, however, this is not a common configuration.
