Compiler/LM386: Compiler/LM386

Part Number: LM386

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

Hello,

I have a question about the LM386 Audio Amplifier IC. I didn’t see the information in the data sheet.

Between the Pin 1 and 8 i can regulate the gain from 20 to 200. But is there any formula to calculate the Gain for an specific value for example 100?

Thanks

Martin

  • Hi Martin,

    put a 10µF cap in series to a resistance Rg and connect this series circuit between Pin1 and Pin8. The gain of LM386 is very roughly then:

    Gain = 2 x 15k / (Rg x 1350 / (Rg + 1350) + 150 )

    But take into account that the manufacturing tolerances of the internal resistances can be huge, not so much the ratio of these resistances but their absolute values.

  • Hi Martin,

    Welcome to e2e.
    The gain calculation could be obtained from the Schematic on the first page of data sheet. The comment above seems pretty good.
