TAS2553: PWM Input to the AIN channels

Part Number: TAS2553

In my application I wish to use a single ended PWM input for the time being and at a later date switch over to PDM input on the same PCB. In either case I need volume control via I2C (or SPI).  I have several questions related to this use. First, is there any issue with using single ended PWM input to the AIN (assuming I put a simple filter on the outside)? What is the frequency range of the output that I can expect with this method? Second, what is the expected frequency range of the output with PDM at 64 x 48,000 Hz? (I am assuming full 20 kHz plus range.) Finally, if this chip is not an ideal solution, what might be a better chip to use. My power requirement is 0.5 to 2 W in to 8 ohms.

  • Hi Tom,

Below is a capture of the frequency response, using the analog input. Please take into account that a filter with fc = 33kHz was used to take the digital switching signal into analog signal for measuring purposes.

Also below is a capture of the frequency response, using the digital input. Note that the frequency response depends on the sampling frequency used, as this sets the fc of the interpolation filter of the DAC.
