PP-SALB-EVM: USB Driver Windows 10 wrong?

Part Number: PP-SALB-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5766MDCAEVM

I am having trouble getting past the hardware checks in order to perform speaker characterization using the PP-SALB-EVM.  The three failures i get are "incorrect default sample frequency", "unable to record audio", and "unable to play back audio"

I have tried to follow the instructions to adjust the default sample rate but when i go to the audio properties, there is no advanced tab available to me.  I am using a windows 10 PC not Windows 7 if that makes a difference.

one thing i noticed when reading thru the user guide SLOU363A, is that it says when the board is attached the audio driver is designated as "USB-miniEVM", however on my PC when i plug in the board on usb i see it is designated as "USB-AudioEVM".  I had also previously used the purepath studio 3 with a different board which makes me think maybe i need a different driver and the USB-AudioEVM is the driver for the previous eval board i tested with?

If i continue on even with the failures and go to the system gain calibration, the tone works, i can hear it, so something is working even though it says i the previous step that it is unable to play back audio.

if i continue on yet again, to the Runing IV measurement i hear the noise coming from the speaker, but it says "Bad Recorded Signal"

I have the dayton audio microphone and sure pre-amp setup as well, but haven't got to the microphone calibration settings yet as described in the document "Application Report SLOU – August 2015"

Any help getting this figured out would be appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hi Blake,

I have seen similar complaints from other customers. Actually the PPC3 never installs a new audio driver by itself and relies on a pre-installed driver from Microsoft.

I would suggest install the PPC3 in a Windows 7 machine and try again.

  • Well that is very problematic! i don't have access to a windows 7 machine right now.  Is there seriously no solution to get things to work under windows10?   This is very discouraging that I have to run a 9 year old operating system that is no longer supported ( other than security patches for 2 more years )  to do my development.  Are there any plans to bring this software up to date and fully support a modern OS?  \

  • Hi Blake,

As far as I know,  that issue happens in some Win10 machines.  Actually we don't see the same issue in the Win10 laptops my colleagues are using now.  Could you find another Win10 machine and try again?

  • I was able to get the PP-SALB-EVM board to pass all the hardware checks when i installed PP3 onto another win10 computer.  This allowed me to do the characterization of the speakers im working with.  however when i swiched boards to start the tuning process on my TAS5766 eval board and PP audio motherboard, i run into the same issues as i did with the learning board on the other computer?  any ideas on what to try next?

  • If you use a PPCMB + TAS5766MDCAEVM,  you have to make sure the sample rate is set to 48kHz in Windows. See the slide below.

  • when i look at the properties, i dont get the "Advanced" tab?  this is the same issue i was seeing before on the other computer.  see attached image.
