TPA3255: TPA3255 shut down issue.

Part Number: TPA3255

Hi:

The customer use TPA3255, input 51V DC, output 4XSE (2ohm) mode. As it described in the datasheet, it can output 4X80W  (51V 2R load).

Use 1K signal to test the PCBA, set the output power is 4X60W, After power on the system, it will shut down about 10 seconds, test the heat-sink, the temperature is 50C.

How to improve the output power.

  • Hi Henry,

What state is the CLIP_OTW pin in when operating, and then what is the state of the FAULT and CLIP_OTW pins when the device shuts off?

  • hi Justin:
the CLOP_OTW is high level when operating, when the device shut down, it's also high level. the Fault is low when the device shut down.
change the load to 4OHM, the AMP can work. But we want to drive 2OHM load. Is there any parameter need to adjust.

    Thanks!
  • Hi Henry,

for the condition at shutdown CLIP_OTW = 1 and FAULT=0, this is an undervoltage or overload error condition. I looked at the schematic and nothing jumps out at me. With 2 ohms its more likely that you could hit an overload situation in SE mode. So I have a few questions.

What is the current available from your supply, does it sag at all during operation?

Have you looked at the audio output on a scope to see if any abnormalities happen just before the part shuts down?

What was the power output from each channel for the 4 ohm test case?

What is the thermal interface between the heatsink and the device?

Have you tested this scenario on the EVM?
