TLV320AIC3254: Audio Codec and Audio Power Amplifier TPA3113D2 impedance matching

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3113D2

Hi,

We are using audio codec TLV320AIC3254-Q1  and we need to connect two 5W speakers with 8 ohms to it. So we choose Audio Power Amplifier TPA3113D2 which has two outputs.

We have some concerns regarding the interface.

Input impedance of audio amplifier is configurable and its lowest value is 9 K ohms. In audio codec output impedance of LOL & LOR  is 10 K ohms and HPL & HPR has 32 Ohms as maximum impedance.

Does this two have to match? If yes, how can we match these impedance (output of codec to input of amplifier)

Regards,

Francy Babu

  • Hi, Francy,

The output impedance spec of the AIC3254 actually matches the input impedance of the TPA3113D2. The line outputs of the codec support a typical impedance of 10K, but are capable of driving a minimum impedance of 600 Ω. The headphone drivers are more powerful and can drive a minimum load of 16 ohms for headphone applications, but as a line driver, these outputs are capable of driving the 9KΩ impedance of the amplifier without problem.
