TLV320AIC3106EVM-K: Unable to communicate with device

Part Number: TLV320AIC3106EVM-K
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3106

Hello TI Community,

I recently got TLV320AIC3106EVM-K devkit and it seems to be having some serious hardware issues.

My setup is: [LINE OUT (PC DAC)] -> [LINE2 R IN (TLV board)] -> [HEADSET output]

It is detected by Windows and TLV320AIC310xEVM Evaluation Tool without a problem, but after trying couple configuration I was unable to make it work.

After couple of unfruitful trials I checked the temperature on TLV chip and it turned out to be burning hot. I've also checked levels on 5V and 3.3V testpoints and there is no voltage. It's worth mentioning that I made sure all jumpers were placed in their default positions. Also, according to troubleshoot instruction, D6 should be ON, but it's always OFF.

Do You have any solution to this problem? I am worried that TLV chip may be fried because of such high temperatures.

Kind regards

Jakub

  • Hi Jakub,

That doesn't sound good! To clarify regarding D6 on the USB-MODEVM board this LED will only light when an external -5V supply is connected. there is no on board -5V supply.

the TLV320AIC3106 should not be hot though. You've mentioned that you connected the line out of the PC to the Line2R input. I assume you used J4 then? can you send a picture of your setup?

    best regards,
    -steve Wilson
  • Hi Steve,

    Thank You for responding.

Regarding the D6 diode, I do not use external power supply (USB only), so indeed D6 should not be lit.

Yes, I used J4 connector. I am attaching pic of  my setup.

(SW3 is set to 1V8 as I intended to use this logic levels after initial startup setup).

P.S. Test points 5V, 3V3, 1V8 show proper voltage levels. I accidently measured them as AC.

    Kind regards

    Jakub

  • Jakub,

make sure that your pins from the AIC3106EVM board are properly aligned with the USBMODEVM.

If that is the case,  and your AIC3106 evm is not functioning,  please go here and submit a customer support form.

    best regards,

    -Steve Wilson

  • Steve,

thank You for another suggestion. Pins are aligned correctly.

I've already submitted return request to distributor and waiting for any resolution. Thank You again for advices and I consider this issue closed, unless anyone has another recomendation.

    Kind regards

  • Jakub,

I am sorry that the AIC3106EVM was not functional. Having written many test procedures for EVMs I can assure you that these EVMs do undergo thorough testing during production. It is rare that we see failures like this.
Please keep me updated on your return request with your distributor. let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    best regards,
    -Steve Wilson
  • Steve,

Eventually, we received a refund for faulty EVM and ordered anothe one. Fortunately the second one was fully functional.
I am very thankful for your concern and help throughout this issue.

    Issue resolved ;)

    Kind regards
    Jakub
