Hello
We have recently bought a pcm1865evm and request PPC2 console to test it on a windows machine. However, I am not bale to work with PPC2 GUI properly.
I connect the 4-channel stereo input to analogue audio signals and then connect the optical output to a Hammerfall DSP Multiface (HDSP) mixer according to the user guide information (page 13).
However, I only see two channels in the HDSP mixer by setting the mode of the pcm1865evm to 0.
In mode 1 and 2 I do not see any audio. For mode 2 it is correct, however, for mode 1 I should be able to process 4 channels!!
- Overall, how can I get this device to work on a windows machine and record a 4-channel audio signals?
- Is the board able to record 8 channel mono signals?
Bets regards
Mehdi
Hi, Medhi,
Welcome to E2E, thanks for your interest in our products.
The issue is not related to the PCM1865 itself, as the limitation of the number of channels come from the EVM design.
The output of the PCM1865 is connected to the main I²S bus of the EVM system, where the S/PDIF interface IC (PCM9211) and USB-Audio bridge (TAS1020B) are connected. both ICs use the I²S interface to stream the recorded audio from the PCM1865 to the optical output or host computer. The limitation is related to the I²S bus itself, which is specified to stream the data of two channels only.
For the PCM1865 to send four channels through a single digital audio data bus (which can be in TDM format), it is required to disconnect the PCM9211 and TAS1020B from the I²S bus and provide the required signals from an external processor. This can be done by removing resistors R3, R20, R21 and R22, and provide the required clocks to the test points above them.
Unfortunately, the TAS1020B we use on th eEVM only supports 2-channel interface, so it is not possible to send the four channels from the PCM1865 to windows with our USB-I2X motherboard.
This device is capable of capturing 4 channels of audio data, in either single-ended or differential mode. 8 channel application can be accomplished only by using two PCM1865s.
