Difference between two TI parts

What is the difference between these two parts:

XD830K013DZKB4

D840K013DZKB4

thx

  • Hello Todd,

I am not able to identify these as TI part numbers.  I'm guessing these are the part markings on the top of the IC, but I'm not able to find any portion of these numbers are for a TI device.  You can use the Part Marking tool, try to match something: http://www.ti.com/packaging/docs/partlookup.tsp .

If you could separate the marking sequences, and provide a picture, that would be helpful.

And how do you know these are TI devices?

    Regards,

  • Leonard,  These are both Digital Signal Processors.  The D830 part is utilized in many Onkyo AVR Receivers but I don't know where the XD830 comes from.  The XD830 will work as a replacement but the Receiver loses all streaming functions so I suspect a timing issue of some kind.  I have attached a picture of both

  • Hi Todd,

Thanks!  Very helpful.  And just for clarification, in your original inquiry, you stated XD830 . . . and D840 . .    so I'm assuming you meant D830 as pictured, correct?

  • Ack! Apologies for the original typo. You are correct, it is the D830 that I am interested in.

If it helps, what I am seeing is that the XD830 will boot without errors. USB and Network both function and all surround sound functions work as designed. The issues start when I try to play any audio from an iPhone (through the USB) or if I try to stream any audio from Internet services like Slacker. In those instances, I can see that the audio stream is being processed but I get 1 second of sound and then nothing (but the visual interface on the receiver shows that the song is still playing). I have confirmed this on 3 different XD830 chips. When I install a D830, it works perfectly. I ran ps in a linux shell and all the processes look correct which is why I asked if there were potentially some timing differences between the two. My test systems are running with a 20.000Mhz crystal if that helps. I assumed that since both are 400Mhz devices, they would be clocked the same but if the solution is as simple as installing the XD variant with a 24.000Mhz or some other speed, I am open to trying that.

    thx

  • Hi Todd,

As I suspected, the D830 is a proprietary device, available only to Dolby licensed entities.  Please read this E2E discussion:  https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/p/670725/2470872 .  Even though it does not discuss the XD830, I think you will have to inquire with Onkyo for any information.  The takeaway from the previous E2E thread is this:

    • You have to use DA830 or the AVR software will not run.  You can't buy DA830 devices from TI (or anyone) unless you're licensed by Dolby/DTS to do so.

I hope you can get assistance from Onkyo or Dolby.

    Regards,

    ~Leonard
