Hi,

We are looking for a codec that is suitable for mobile phone application.

We need to support MIC, Speaker,earpiece and headphone.Codec will be connected to a vocoder and then to the processor.

So we shortlisted to TLV320AIC3212. Is it a suitable or do you have a better choice?

What is the longevity of this part? We are looking for IC with longer life time.

Please advise.

Hi, Jenitt,

The AIC3212 is our most integrated codec, however I am not sure if the device size is good for the mobile phone application. This codec can be configured with SPI interface instead of I²C, but the only audio data interface supported is PCM, with the option to configure the format as I²S, Left or right justified or TDM.

We don't have any plan to remove this device from market any time soon, so it could be used without issues for a long time.

Hi, Jenitt,

I think McBSP can be configured to accommodate the data to PCM interface. We have an app note where it is described how to integrate a PCM codec to an SPI interface, but you need to make sure it is OK for your application as it involves the use of external circuitry.
