TAS5548: USB to 6.1 CH

Part Number: TAS5548

Hi Team,

Customer is checking if TAS5548 can do 6.1CH output with USB or miniDP input?

I would like to double confirm if my understanding is correct, TAS5548 was designed only for Blu-ray lossless audio format, therefore not suitable for USB type application, right?

Thanks.

Andrew

  • Andrew,

The TAS5548 does not care what the application is, it can handle the 6.1 audio. It does not have USB input. You can use something like a TAS1020 or XMOS device to translate the USB audio to I2S which the TAS5548 can then use.

  • Hi Adam,

This is where I get confused about.
TAS5548 input takes I2S (not TDM), but I thought I2S only containing LR channel only, how TAS1020 can output 6.1 audio to TAS5548?
Could you explain a little more detail?
    Just the concept is fine.
    Thanks.

  • Andrew,

The TAS5548 has 4 SDIN connections which each support L and R channels for 8 channels total.

The TAS5548 EVM only has connection to SDIN1 through the TAS1020. You could solder in SDIN2, 3, and 4 but the EVM doesn't support this well.

Internally the TAS5548 can route SDIN1 to all 8 channels for evaluation if needed.
