PCM1865EVM: Read analog audio signal in pure path software and save to file.

Part Number: PCM1865EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1865

How do I read the analog audio input in the pure path UI in mode 2? I want to save the analog audio signal received by PCM 1865 to a file in PC using the pure path software. Can I do that?

  • Hi Zheng,

    Welcome to e2e forum.

The PCM1865 EVM is shipped with USB to I2X daughter card which allows you to interface with PC with EVM. This board allows I2S input [to the device] and output [from the device] to USB running on I2S clocks. The digital output from the USB can be captured using software like Audacity for further analysis. In most cases, the DOUT from the device is analysed using AP for measuring the THD, SNR etc. but it's also common to capture and play the DOUT using PC using any USB audio capture software like Audacity. NOTE that the USB to I2X board is programmed for default 48kHz and hence this can be done only at 48kHz sampling rate.

    Thanks & Best regards,
    Ravi

  • Hi Ravi,

Thank you very much for responding to my question. I followed your suggestion and download the Audacity software to capture the analog audio input. I connected a PC microphone to the red and white VIN1 ports in the 1865 EVM and the microphone doesn't have external power connection. It seems PCM1865 EVM doesn't capture its audio input. Is that because PCM 1865 does not provide power to the microphone like PC does?

    Thanks & regards,

    Zheng
