PCM2912A: Operating temperature

Part Number: PCM2912A

Hello

I'm using PCM2912A in my project. In datasheet (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/pcm2912a.pdf) the operating temperature is mentioned as given below.

Section 7.3          Operating Free Air Temperature          -25 to +70°C

Section 7.5          Operation Temperature                          -25 to +85°C

Section 14            Op Temp                                                   -25 to +85°C

Can you please let us know what is the operating temperature of PCM2912A. Which option among the above that is mentioned in the datasheet is correct?

Regards

Nidhi P Shetty

  • Hi Nidhi,
The free-air operating temperature range is the ambient temperature which the device can be exposed to when in operation. It can be temperature that the outer casing of the device (including solder pads) can be exposed to when in operation. The mechanism for heat transfer can be air around the device and board heat.

Operating temperature is the temperature at which an electrical device operates effectively which varies based on the device function and application context, and ranges from the minimum operating temperature to the maximum operating temperature.

Now more specific to PCM2912A, the device should operate reliably till +70degC as the test program during production has a screen till 70degC. The device/package should also function till 85degC but we do not have full functionality tested across production but the device should be able to operate till 85degC as well.

    Best regards,
    Ravi
