TLV320AIC3100: Soft - stepping function

Part Number: TLV320AIC3100

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask TLV320AIC3100?

We would like to know the soft - stepping function exactly.

P0/R81[D1-D0] setting is relation to P1/R47[D6–D0], P0/R82[D6–D4] and P0/R83[D6–D0].
Are P0/63[D1–D0] setting relation to P0/65[D7–D0], P1/36[D6–D0] and P1/37[D6–D0]?

As the background of this question, there is the description for Soft-stepping at various locations.

-P50 7.3.10.2 DAC Digital-Volume Control
The rate of soft-stepping is slowed to one step per two input samples by writing to page 0 / register 63, bits D1–D0.

-P60 7.3.10.11.2 Headphone Analog-Output Volume Control
The analog volume-control soft-stepping time is based on the setting in page 0 / register 63, bits D1–D0.

-P61 7.3.10.11.3 Class-D Speaker Analog Output Volume Control
The analog volume-control soft-stepping time is based on the setting in page 0 / register 63, bits D1–D0.

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Matsumoto-san,

The Soft stepping function allows for a more gradual volume control rather than the user needing to manually do this,

There are different soft-step controls for the ADC side and DAC side.  see ADC settings below:

the Default setting is to decrease 1 step per sample period.  for a more gradual change one step per 2 sample periods is another option.

and of course the user can also shut this off.

The DAC soft stepping control will also control the headphone and class-D stepping.

    best regards,
