PCM1861EVM: PCM1861EVM: Digital audio appears to be truncated to 16 bits (cont'd)

Part Number: PCM1861EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1861

As stated before (in July, 2018), our PCM1861EVM module delivers only 16 bit audio, while we meanwhile really need 24 bit performance for our further tests.

The PCM1861EVM came with a USB-I2X AIP018A interface board, which seems to cause the truncation to 16 bits (the main board containing the PCM1861 is confirmed to deliver a 24 bit DOUT signal). Can we change anything on the current interface board or would we need another one to demonstrate the real audio performance of this ADC?

Thanks,

Jan Hak

  • Hi Jan,
The EVM can be interfaced with the host processor directly via I2C and you can set the word length to 24bits. I am not aware of any limitation w the word length using USB-I2X board in the past.

I am currently out-of-office and most of our applications team as well, due to the holidays. I will be back in office to test the same in more detail and provide you the working config. In the meantime, you can interface with the EVM directly via host processor.

    Best regards,
    Ravi
