TPA6120A2: TPA6120A2 volume control

Part Number: TPA6120A2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5142

hi i would like to install a 50k potentiometer to be able to change the volume of the TPA6120A2 what would be the best place?
thank you

  • Hi Gilles,

You could either place audio taper at the input, to adjust the amplitude of input signal; or you can also place potentiometer at feedback resistor, in series with a fixed resistor for "base" gain setting.
In either case, there could be impedance mismatch between the input pair due to the variation of the potentiometer. This could cause pop noise, although this device is not enhanced for pop performance.
Another option would be to add a previous stage (op amp) and apply the gain adjustment on this stage.
