TAS5825M: TAS5825 use with Smart Amp and Learning Board

Hi,

I am looking to use the SmartAmp Learning board to characterise my speakers and amplifier design, with the final amplifier to be the TAS5825M. The overview of the Learning Board states that it is compatible with the TAS5825 and the TAS5766.

But all of the documentation for the learning board only refers to the TAS5766. What do I need to do to get this to support the TAS5825M?

I do have a Purepath console motherboard and the TAS5825M EVM module, but not the TAS5766 EVM module. Can I use the TAS5825MEVM module instead?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ian,

The Learning Board is used to characterize speakers. The speaker profile can then be imported to TAS5825M or TAS5766M app for speaker tuning.

Take a look at the following app note.

I do have further questions:

The datasheet for the TAS5825 states that it is capable of 192KHz sample rates and processing, whereas all the sample cases in that document are 96KHz and even 48KHz processing. How do I set up the TAS5825 and the processing for 192KHz sample rates?

I am looking at a design for a 2.1 speaker configuration and I want the amplifier to be operating at the higher, 192KHz sample rates.

It also states in that document that maximum input sample rate to the SRC is 96KHz - how can I use this device in a 192KHz design?

Hi Ian,

The only process flow that can support 192kHz processing is the housekeeping flow.

HI Andy,
Does this also mean that the other process flows cannot accept incoming sample rates of 192KHz? I understand that they only process at 96KHz (or 48KHz), but can the SRC accept higher sample rates of 192KHz?

Thanks for your reply, although I didn't make my question very clear.

Will the other process flows accept higher sample rates of 192KHz and use the SRC to down-convert to 96 or 48KHz? Or do I have to reduce the incoming source to 96KHz if I want to use these other process flows?

Hi Ian,

If you want a process flow that does true 192kHz processing (all the audio data are processed at 192kHz), the housekeeping flow is the only option.

However, if you can accept 96kHz processing but just want to support 192kHz input sample rate, there are a few options. See the screenshot below.
