TLV320AIC3100: I2S question

Part Number: TLV320AIC3100

Hi Guys,

This is admittedly more of an I2S question, but my customer and I haven't had much experience here so maybe you guys can help.

My customer will need five audio devices that will end up using I2S, four microphone codecs that will feed audio data, and one speaker that will need to be fed audio data. If we used a part like the AIC3100 for the 4 microphone codecs, and another device for the speaker codec that also uses I2S, would we need to have five separate I2S modules in our DSP/MPU? You don't have multiple devices on one bus, right?

I think these microphones will be distributed across a small area (like a car), so i dont think a multi channel codec will work

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

I am not quite sure I fully understand your question...

If the customer has multiple microphones in small distributed area and want to take I2S stream to the DSP for processing, can they use 4 ADC channels on the codec or ADC? In general, when you have multiple I2S data output from audio converter, the DSP will need to have ability to process the same using McASP or McBSP ports for each I2S streams.

If you want to discuss this in more detail, I will be more than happy to call you tmrw.

    Best regards,
    Ravi
