TAS2505-Q1: Directly drive 8ohm micro-speaker

Part Number: TAS2505-Q1

Hi Team,

Does TAS2505-Q1 support output directly drive 8 ohm micro-speaker?

Because we have SMT type speaker, I plan to remove all the bead and cap between amplifier and speaker.

  • Hi Nick,

This device support filter-free operation, so this should work fine as long as the speaker impedance is within device specification (8-ohm is OK).
Although if your system is EMI sensitive it would be recommended to use a filter. You can test its performance with and without filter.

  • Hi Ivan,
Thanks, I decide to serial a bead 120ohm@10MHz (DCR=0.1 ohm) with a 100pF cap shunt to ground.
By the way, is the class D switching frequency 8.48MHz? It is a little bit high, but it is the only one value that I can found in the datasheet.
  • Nick,

The typical switching frequency of the Class-D is 300kHz, and the Min/Max is 250/350kHz.
