PCM3168A: sampling rate

Part Number: PCM3168A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM3168

Hi Team,

My customer is looking to use PCM3168A.

They are looking at running it both in I2C and Hardware control mode.  Their SCKI is 12.288Mhz and the fs is 48k giving 256fs.
They will need to run it in single rate with all channels being input/output on DIN1/DOUT1.
In the datasheet it mentions “The sampling mode is automatically set as single rate for 512 fs and 768 fs, dual rate for 256 fs and 384 fs, and quad rate for 128 fs and 198 fs, according to the detected multiples between the system clock and sampling clock.”

Does that mean that they will only be able to use dual rate considering our SCKI and fs rate when we are in Hardware control mode?
Thanks, Joey

  • Hi Joey,

PCM3168 supports two sampling modes (single rate and dual rate) in ADC operation & three sampling modes (single rate, dual rate, and quad rate) in DAC operation. The sampling mode is automatically selected according to the ratio of system clock frequency and sampling frequency by default [ex: dual rate for 256 fs and 384 fs].

So you will be able to use dual rate considering SCKI and fs rate by default. I am assuming you are referring to HW mode as in default setting.

Finally, can you please outline overall Block diagram/requirements for PCM3168 in use for this system? Thanks.

    Best regards.
