PCM1792A: PCM1792a SPI work in Daisy chain ?

Part Number: PCM1792A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA2320

Hi,

I have a project to develop an audio DAC board with 4 PCM1792a and need to interface with SPI.

My question is if SPI work in daisy chain like PGA2320 for example or do we have to interface the SPI in paralel with independent chip select?

I dont want to use the TDMCA but I2S+SPI

Thank for your help

  • Hi Phillippe,

If you are using TDMCA, the SPI interface cannot be used at all. The commands to the device must be integrated into the TDMCA frame. TDMCA can be daisy chained.

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • Hi Paul,

As I said I don't want to use TDMCA

I want ti use I2S and SPI independently and my question is to know if I can connect the SPI in daisy chain because I have four PCM1792a to interface.

    Thanks

  • Hi Paul,

As I said I don't want to use TDMCA

I want ti use only I2S and SPI independently and my question is to know if I can connect the SPI in daisy chain because I have four PCM1792a to interface with the micro controler. I don't want to use 4 chip select but only one with daisy chain in place to parallel connection.

    Is my inquiry is clear?

    Thanks
  • Ahhh, my mistake! I read your question initially as "I want to use TDMCA" :)

So the PCM1792A does not support daisy-chaining for SPI, so you will need to have a dedicated CS for each device if you want to write unique data to each device. If you are writing the same data to all 4 devices, then you can have them share an CS line, and just not have readback capability.

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • Ok Paul,

Your answer is very clear and now I understand.
Thank a lot for your prompt support.
