TPA3128D2: PAD Connection to GND plane.

Part Number: TPA3128D2

I'm designing a PCB which includes the TPA3128D2.
In the data sheet, it is recommended to connect the center pad to GND.
However, when I looked at the evaluation board PCB I noticed that in the top layer, the PAD is not connected to the GND. It's connected to the GND by vias, that connect it to the bottom layer GND plane.

Is there a specific reason for it?

I prefer to connect the PAD also at the top layer, so I can connect the GND pins to it, instead of connecting each one to a separate via.
Is there any problem with that ?

Thank you,
Alon Goldstein.
