LME49600: LME49600 alternatives

Part Number: LME49600
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LME49720, , LME49860, LM4562, RC4580, BUF634A, LM833, NE5532, BUF634, TL972, TL974

Hello TI,

I have a client that wants to us to design a consumer headphone amplifier.

We are researching the IC LME49720 at the TI website and is reviewing this,  LME49600 Headphone Amplifier Evaluation Board LME49600TSBD (ACTIVE).

However the BOM is too costly, thereof looking for alternative ICs.

So we are review the IC LM4562, LME49720 and LME49860, however we need to find an alternative for the BUFFER - IC LME49600?

QUESTION: What are the comparable alternatives can you all recommend for the IC LME49600?

We are reviewing the RC4580 and the NJM4556! We need a TI solution, thanks.

Looking for a cost effective solution.

Thank you for your support.

  • Hi, Neil,

In order to create a headphone amplifier, the output current is necessary from the audio buffer. The LME49600 is one of our parts with better output current (250 mA).

For this kind of current level, we can only suggest the BUF634A. This part also has an evaluation module in case you are interested in:

Please take a look at it and let me know if you have questions or comments on this.

  • Hello cost is an issue in our project! Thus the BUF634A as an alternative audio buffer will not work. What else can you suggest as an alternative from TI, for audio buffer, DIP8 package. Will the RC4580 suffice?

  • Hi, Neil,

The RC4580 should work too. However, it is important to consider that this device has a lower maximum output current compared with the LME49600 and the BUF634A. If this is not a constraint, this would be the best choice.

  • Hi Luis,

    Thank you for this support.

Can you have your application engineer provide some ICs in DIP8 package that is equivalent to the BUF634A and similar in spec but at a lower cost?

We are looking for an alternative to the BUF634A, similiar in spec at lower cost without sacrificing quality and performance!

We have reviewed the RC4580, NE5532, LM833 and the NJM4556. Now the NJM4556 shows most promising as an alternative, and happy medium.

However we need to engineer a TI audio solution.

Note, the NJM4556 from NJR is a backup audio solution, if we cannot get an optimum TI ICs.

Kindly list some options, most appreciative.

  • Hi Luis,

    Thank you for this support.

  • Hi, Neil,

Please take a look at our op amps product folder. I filtered all the devices and leaved only those that support the DIP packages (and variants).

    www.ti.com/.../products.html

There's a BUF634 device (non A version) which features the DIP package. However, its price is also higher that the most part of our devices. I also suggest to order the devices per output current. Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments on this.

  • For the DIP8 packages & 34-36V, which IC is a good audio buffer per the cost constraint?
Looking for the best out of the lot, similar to NJM4556 from NJR and or RC4580!

    Regards,

  • Hi, Neil,

Regarding your parameters requirements, what do you refer with 34-36V? Is it the power supply range?

Is the RC4580IP not an option for you? This device has a PDIP package ( www.ti.com/.../mpdi001b.pdf ). In addition, this device can handle headphone loads (100mA output) and +/- 18V operating voltage.

Then, we have the TL972 and TL974, which are capable to handle 80mA output current. However, these devices only support +/- 2.5V operating voltage.

The rest of DIP devices in our audio portfolio cannot handle output currents higher than 80mA, so they cannot be used with headphone loads, only as preamplifiers or line outputs.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.
  • Yes, 34-36V is the power supply range, +/- 18V operating voltage.
The RC4580IP is an option we are considering, thank you.
We are researching device Spec >100mA output and +/- 18V operating voltage.

Our SERVO device we plan to use is the IC LM4562 and or LME49720.
However we are struggling with the audio buffer!

  • Hi, Neil,

Unfortunately, we don't have enough DIP devices with those characteristics and low price. The RC4580IP would be the best choice that fits the features that you are looking for.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments. We will be glad to help you.
