Hello to whom it may concern,

Our customer would like to use PCM1808 for monaural audio system.

In this case,

Q1, Can the PCM1808 use for monaural system?

Q2, If Q1 is OK, how do I handle unused input pins?

Q3, When it use for monaural system, Is I2S data output correctly?

If there are some other caveats, could you please let us know?

Hello,

Yes, the PCM1808 can be used in a single-channel audio system. The unused inputs should be AC coupled to ground through a ~0.47uF capacitor similarly to how is described here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/audio/f/6/t/773100?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=faq:true

With one channel tied to ground, the I2S data will still be output correctly, but there will not be any useful data output for the unused channel, so it can be ignored.

As an additional option, the same signal can be tied to both of the inputs. This can be beneficial if your system has extra back-end processing power that you can use to digitally sum the channels to slightly improve the performance.
