TPA3118D2: TPA3118 not working

Hello everyone, did the Board on two TPA3118D2 working in the bridge each, but both do not start, connected to the input CSR8635, linen input from the PC, and touched the input with your finger, but no sounds at the output can not be heard, power the Board from the Converter 3.7 V-14V running on LM3488. That checked:

PVCC+ AVCC - 1) 13.90V 2)13.90V

GVDD + PLIMIT -  1) 7V 2) 6.90V

SDZ  + FAULTZ - 1) 7V 2) 0V (Not found the reason why it gives an error)

MUTE 1) 0V 2)0V (100k to GND)

LINP;LINN;AM2,1,0; - On GND (bridge)

SYNC connected through 4.7k 

All carefully checked for short circuit, no short circuit anywhere (OUTs, BSPR, all VDD), chips are not heated. To the outputs of each connected speaker 4 Ohm, no chip no reaction, I think that the chips are still faulty. Did everything according to Datasheet.

    Can you post your schematic. Also How did your probe the connections when you were testing for shorts? What is the load you are using? You also said "touched the input with your finger" what did you mean by that.

    One of the major problems in your design is that since the TPA3118 is a Pad-down device you need multiple thermal vias connected to the power pad as shown in our EVM for this device. The device won't work without proper grounding on the power pad. Is there a full ground layer on the other size of your board and is it a 2-layer board? The TPA3118 needs a 2-layer PCB to operate properly.

Power-Pad chips soldered to the ground as the picture, check for short circuit made by multimeter, load as I said, 4 Ohm speaker.  The second layer (ground) on the Board not until I collected the amps on TPA3111, TPA3118 on their single-layer boards, and everything is fine started. I think that all the same the chip is faulty, I have used them before, a long time tortured them)) But in the future I want to know more about what it takes to run these TPA)) On the factory Board I put together for the TPA3116D2 with a new chip everything is run the first time, although there is the same scheme as here

  • The TPA3116 and the TPA3130 are pad up devices and can work on a single layer board, but the TPA3118 needs thermal vias on the powerpad and we recommend in the datasheet to use a 2 layer board. We can't guarantee the functionality of the TPA3118 if it can't dissipate heat properly due to not having the thermal vias and the lack of a ground plane.

  • Thanks for the reply. They even under heavy load on single sided very little heated. And still such question if I power analog and a power supply will divide, the chip will be more stable to work? And what is the parameter in Datasheet, error "DC offset too high" ?) Thank You)

  • We explain the too high DC offset in section 7.3.9 in the TPA3118 datasheet. Also was the device operational for a certain amount of time, or was it never working.
