TLV320AIC23B MIC boost and DSP mode

This is really a couple of questions that have come in from a customer.

1. The MIC input is what gives us trouble . . the 20 dB boost bit makes no difference in either position, and I don't get the expected level of data inside the DSP, as evidenced through the graphing feature of Code Composer. The right and left line inputs operate as expected. Is there anything special I need to do other than setting the MIC bit in the "Analog Audio Path Control" register?

2.We started working with this CODEC about three years ago, on recommendation of some associates. Although I have written code that appears to work, I have never been convinced that I have the correct interface between it and the DSP, which we have used for a longer period of time (albeit, an older family member - '5402). The CODEC is set up to operate in the Right-Justified Mode . . only because I could never get it to work in the DSP Mode, which the data sheet says is compatible with TI's McBSP ports.

I there TI documentation that outlines the proper setup of these two devices in the preferred mode(DSP Mode), perhaps including sample code, that would be helpful.

Cheers

Calum

  • You should be able to see a big difference if you add 20 dB of mic gain, so probably something else is wrong.

There is quite a bit of applications material available on interfacing our CODECs to our DSP's. Most of this comes from the DSP team because most the challenge involves setting up the McBSP. Here is an example of a note the DSP team put out:

I am sure they also have a lot of example code available. I would recommend you ask this question on the 540x site to get their feedback as well.
