TPA3118D2: How to use SYNC pin?

Part Number: TPA3118D2

hello

we use 3 PCS TPA3118 to play music in 3 rooms.

We have different scenes as bleow:

a. 3 pcs TPA3118s work at the same time;

b. we choose 1 or 2 pcs TPA3118 to play music for different room.

My questions are :

1. what is the usage of SYNC pin?

2.  must we use the SYNC pin in our system?   what will happen if we left the SYNC float?

3. which one should be set to master or slave device?

Thanks a lot

  • Hi Jesse,

    Using the SYNC pin helps to prevent audible beat noise.

    There are often designs that require more than one TPA3118 devices. One is considered the master and the others are the slave. The master will provide an oscillator clock on the SYNC pin and the slave devices will need an oscillator input on the SYNC pin. All devices will be synchronized to avoid beat frequencies in the audio spectrum. If the clock is lost on the slave, the internal watchdog will place the outputs into Hi-Z.

    If you left the SYNC pin floating, you must config TPA3118 to master mode.

    Regards,
