Need some advice about codec

I need some advice about what kind of codec I should use. This audio codec is for measuring noise in a sound meter we want to design. This codec must have a range of measurement between 40-110 dbs, must divide the frecuency spectrum in octaves and 1/3 octaves. For its calibration must have some gains to apply in each octave and it must be low power consumption.

In previous projects we used the TLV320AIC3104IRHBR codec only for measure noise but we had some problems and we didn´t manage to measure the noise below 55dbs, resulting our range of measurement between 55-110 dBs with a calibration included. Therefore, the new codec must assure us that this problem is not going to happen again.

I appreciate if you let me know what codec would be appropriate for us taking into account the previous details.

    can you provide more details?  is this a battery powered device?  do you need the DACs?  or could you use a standalone ADC?

  • I´m not an expert in this area so I´ll try to answer as much detail as possible. 

    Regarding the battery, the idea is the device could be feeded with solar panel or with a power supply connected to the grid, thats why we need a low power consumption. What are the difference between a standalone ADC and DAC? I assume both convert an analogue signal to digital signal and viceversa...

    Ok,  I was asking about standalone ADCs because I wasn't sure if you needed a way to convert from digital to analog as well.  

    regarding your measurement range,  I assume the 40-110 dB is SPL?  what kind of microphone are you using?  Is the DAC sending out a signal that the ADC then has to measure?

    Ok,  I was asking about standalone ADCs because I wasn't sure if you needed a way to convert from digital to analog as well.

    What kind of microphone are you using?  is the DAC playing some kind of tone that the ADC is then measuring?

    Yes, you are right the measurmente range is SPL.

    Regarding the microphone we are using an 1/2 inch electret microphone.

    We need to use the DAC/ADC because there is some information that is sent to microchip.
