TAS2770EVM: Playback by using external I2S

Hi Sirs,

I have two questions.

1. I can't enable TAS2770EVM speaker (J10 or J15 and J20) when I connect a 3rd party SoC to it by I2S interface (SoC data out to TAS2770EVM SDIN) in PPC3.

I measured the SoC I2S waveform and it is normal when playing 48kHz/2ch/16bit (1.536MHz) and 48kHz/2ch/24bit (3.072MHz) wav file.

Which specific items I need to set in PPC3 when using external I2S interface?

2. When using I2S interface to enable speaker, can you tell me which I2C registers need to be configured and what are the values?

  • HI Jeremy,

    Does your SoC provide BCLK, WCLK, SDIN and MCLK? Or is there no MCLK?

    You mention SDIN, but did you connected all BCLK, WCLK(FSYNC) and SDIN from the SoC to the board, and shorted J2, for your test, as mention in section 7.1.2?

    You can still use PPC3 and on-board I2C controller to configure the device, even if using external I2S source.

  • Hi Ivan,

    Yes, I connected SBCLK, FSYNC, SDIN, and SDOUT from our Qualcomm SoC to TAS2770EVM.

    I had shorted J2 already.

    My SoC level is 1.8V and I switch J1 to Vcc 1.8V.

    After I try to adjust "Frame Start Polarity" and "Edge polarity", it still has no luck.

    Which steps do I missed?

  • Hi Jeremy,

    Are you using the correct I2C address? It is 0x82 by default but your J13 config seems different.
    Do you get a successful write message when initializing the device?

    When your SoC is not playing audio, does the I2S signals are stopped?
    I2S signals should be present, if they're not the device will trigger clock error detection.
