PCM1754: Is there any test data about VCC max voltage and time for a spike?

Hi, team,

In PCM1754 datasheet, VCC abs. max voltage is 6.5V. In my customer design, the VCC power rail is 5V, but in system battery drop test, the VCC pin voltage will go high as a spike, the peak value is ~7.6V, the duration of >6.5V time is ~14us. The spike is caused by system level reason and cannot be eliminated now.

Do you have such test or data on the VCC pin voltage spike about the peak voltage and time? Customer needs this to evaluate the risk to device.

Hi Johnny,

It is very difficult to estimate what damage could occur to the device. Violating the abs. max. limit is never recommended. Another item to consider is the current drive capability during this event. If the supply has a voltage transient but cannot drive any current, then I suspect there will be no damage. If this supply can source a lot of current during this transient, then it is more likely that the device could be damaged.

Paul,

The spike is from power supply, so there may be high current and energy. If no AC transient spec is provided, we have to ask customer to change some design to protect our device.
