TAS2505-Q1: speaker output gain setting

Part Number: TAS2505-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2505

Hi, Team:

Can you help to check if TAS2505 speaker output gain setting can use 32dB or not?

In datasheet, it describe the maximum gain of speaker is 32dB but in application guide register description page 1/register 48, D6-D4=101b means 32dB.

Need your help if customer can use 32dB or not? If we have verified this?

  • Hello Alpha,

I was able to find the speaker amplifier volume control 2 in the application reference guide, but I cannot seem to locate max gain in the datasheet.

    Where in the datasheet?

  • In datasheet block diagram as above , there is.

And in datasheet application curves, the test maximum gain are using 24dB.

  • Hello Alpha,

I see in the TAS2505 and TAS2505Q1 datasheet the following under HP Driver Performance. It implements 32 dB.

However, TAS2505Q1 does not implement HPOUT and it is instead a NC, seems to be a copy from TAS2505 datasheet.

The application reference guide applies to both, which is why the setting for 32 dB exists.

I would not operate the speaker output gain above 24 dB.

    All the best,

    Carolina Gomez

  • Hi,Caro:

Datasheet looks confusing.  From my understanding, there is 32dB gain in class D output. No meaning for HP gain with 32dB because normally, HP output need smaller gain.

I will ask your help to double check and clarify this. We’d better give clear answer for such function level questions to customer.

  • Hello Alpha,

I agree that the datasheet does look confusing.

The speaker amplifier volume should only be 6, 12, 18, or 24 dB. The speaker gain will not work at 32 dB. For Page 1/Register 48 settings D6-D4: 101 to 111 should be reserved.

I will personally see that this is changed in the user's reference guide. Thank you for catching this mistake.

    All the best,

    Carolina
