TAS2770EVM: USB Audio from PC to the EVM board not working

Part Number: TAS2770EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2770,

Dear Sirs,

Today I did successfully install PPC with related apps and drivers> I did follow the installatin guide and installed the right jumpers (I hope) but I'm still not able to get audio out of it. On my Win 10 PC "TI USB AUDIO UAC2.0" is set as default sound device, but is still not working. Do you have any ideas what this could be?

Thank you in advance,

Alex

P.S. One more detail: When I run the PPC3 tool, I get a warning "This App requires TAS2770 (device Id 0x13) device on the EVM. Found Device ID 0x10.

  • Hi, Alex,

Our team will take a look at this and will answer as soon as possible.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Alex,

Can you provide your detailed procedure?
You can get past the ID message and click on the "connect" button at the bottom left corner.

Some specific questions I'd like to answer are:

    • Are you able to configure the device? Is the SW freezing at some point or not?
    • Did you run system checks? Is it able to play the test tone?
    • Can you share a capture of your PC's playback devices to check if its being recognized correctly?
    • Please share a photo of your jumper settings

  • Hi Ivan,

Thanks a lot for for your reply. Here is what I have done so far:

    1) Started PPC3, signed in, and started the TAS2770EVM App

    2) After the warning I  click to Connect, and see the device gets online

    3) Did "Perform System Checks". They were finished with HW OK, no test tone being heard

    4) followed the TAS2770 EVM setup manual, and didt check the Sampling rate and sample format. Currently is set to 32 bit 44.1/48kHz, but none of them worked so far

    5) Did click on "Device Control", set the default device on windows, and played some music expecting it to hear on the speaker

What needs to be configured on the board apart of the jumpers?

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • Alex,

One clarification: system checks does not play a test tone for this device, sorry for the confusion.

Once you have the EVM powered and connected to the PC with PPC3 open:

    • Do you enter "Device Control" panel, click on "Apply" button at the bottom right and then "Power Up" at top right?

  • Hi Ivan,

Strange, I do not see any "Apply" button. What I see on the bottom is the Connect/Disconnect button, I2C button, and the TI logo at bottom right.

Anyway, I found my problem-I was missing a click on the "Power On" button, now I can at least listen and experiment with USB audio before connecting it via i2S, thank you very much for the hint!zou

Next step would be to understand how the load protection is working-the reason why we would like to evaluate this chip is that we would like to prevent our IP Speaker device from being restarted if the user connects 4 ohm speaker instead of 8 ohm and pumps up the volume to the max because it pulls peak current that the PoE cannot provide. But I guess this shall be the subject of another thread, right?

    Cheers,

    Alex
